America's great experiment on a democracy is in trouble.

Donald Trump's big live and he won the 2020 election is not just accepted,

but widely promoted by a Republican Party that supports state laws making it harder for some people

to vote. Some liberal Democrats take comfort in the country's increasing diversity, but Yasha

Monk has a warning. He says it's diversity that's threatening democracy,

not just in the U.S., but elsewhere in the world, in nations increasingly divided by class

and race and religion. We'll hear his warning about the danger of believing that demography

is destiny. But first, to Vladimir Putin's defiance of the rules of war and the inability of the

United Nations to influence Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine. But it was founded in San Francisco in

1945. The promise of the UN was the peaceful resolution of international disputes, but now Putin is threatening

nuclear warfare against the U.S. and NATO. And when UN Secretary General Antonio Gutierrez paid a visit,

Russia dropped bombs on Kiev, Ukraine's capital city. Just a few days before that, I spoke with

a former ambassador to Ukraine, Stephen Pfeifferer.

He's now a senior fellow with the Arms Control and Non-Proliferation Institute

and a William Perry fellow at Stanford University.

I asked him if the UN might play a role or if it's essentially out of the peacekeeping business.

His answers were prophetic.

Let's get a little background before we begin. As the war in Ukraine continues, the U.S. is

contributing many billions of dollars in weapons and military equipment, America's Secretary of State and Defense,

Anthony Blinken, and Lloyd Austin, after a risky visit to Kyiv, said that this country wants Russia

to be weakened. Russia's top diplomat, Sergei Lavrov, says, the U.S. and NATO are risking

nuclear war.
