Summary

Dylan sits down with his big brother, Jason Bowman to talk all things meditation. Jason has devoted the last 10 years of his life to Vipassana meditation and does a great job articulating the benefits he's seen from his daily practice and retreat experiences. This is a fun one for people looking to implement or sustain a healthy mindfulness practice or those generally interested in exploring internal life.

Hey, guys, welcome back. Thanks so much for tuning in. Today I have what I think is a really

0:22.2

interesting and fun one with none other than my big brother, Jason Bowman. Jason is a meditator,

0:30.0

so we spend the bulk of our conversation talking about meditation practice. I thought it would

0:36.0

be interesting and relevant based on the fact that

0:38.2

meditation has really become a buzzword, something that's been really popular and prominent in

0:45.0

sport and business and healthy lifestyle. And Jason is somebody with a ton of experience, to say

0:51.5

the least. Jason has really devoted the last 10 years of his life to

0:56.7

Vopasana meditation retreats. And for those who don't know, of course, we sort of cover this in

1:02.6

the podcast, but Vapasana retreats are typically 10 days long. They are completely silent. You're not

1:09.3

allowed to read. You're not allowed to write. You're not allowed to write. You're not

1:12.4

allowed to exercise. You're not even allowed to really make eye contact with the other individuals

1:18.8

who are on retreat with you. It's really a tool in which you're able to go deep, deep inside,

1:27.0

much in the same way that ultra running is a way in which we go

1:30.6

deep within ourselves to learn a lot more. And Jason and I have always sort of laughed about the

1:37.0

parallel paths that we've taken and the sort of interesting and similar trajectories we've

1:42.9

been on over the last 10 years because we sort of

1:45.2

found our life's purpose around the same time, right? For me, it was ultra-running, obviously. And

1:51.1

for Jason, again, it was spiritual life and meditation specifically. So we talk a lot about the

1:58.0

practical application of meditation in your life. We talk about the

2:02.9

vipasana practice, what it entails, how he prepares. We talk about identity stuff, things that I've

2:09.4

been dealing with this year that I've learned a lot about and how meditation has helped to shape

2:14.0

Jason's relationship with himself and how he sees himself and presents himself
