Ukraine, conflict with Russia, now moves into fog of war across the Ukrainian frontier into Russia.

Somi Oblast headed to Kursk Oblast.

I welcome Colonel Jeff McCausen, the United States Army retired artillery men.

CBS News visiting Professor Dickinson College and CEO Diamond Six Leadership and Strategy, a man who has led

a column into enemy territory, and I will call upon Jeff's education and experience to understand what we cannot see through the fog of war.

However, a major question about the Ukrainian incursion, that's the polite term, is why.

Your careful case for why the Ukrainians are doing this.

What do they get out of it?

good news John yeah I think the why is clearly a critical question and for the

Ukrainians there are a number of reasons first reason might well be for frankly

domestic consumption at home.

The Ukrainian people have suffered grievously over the last number of months under relentless

missile attacks by Russia, glide bombs striking cities. as a consequence this raises Ukrainian

morale. Raises the Korean morale at home raises Ukrainian morale

amongst the army. We're no longer retreating and now are advancing.

There's nothing soldiers like more than to advance instead of retreat.

Second, to some degree, perhaps this while surprising allies like the United States also reassures allies and skeptics that

Ukraine can go on the offensive. You had Lindsey Graham out there saying how

glorious this all was and that's a positive for the Ukrainians looking to the future.
