It's fair to say that the Ukraine-Russia talks in Istanbul today have been a bit of an

anti-climax.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision not to attend led to both Ukrainian President

Vladimir Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump not attending after several days of

confusion. Leaders of Britain, France, not attending after several days of confusion.

Leaders of Britain, France, Germany, and Poland instead met with Zelensky in Albania,

and together called Russia's negotiation demands, quote, unacceptable.

The leaders held a phone call with President Trump, while Zelensky said this of Putin's

absence.

This week, we had a real chance to take important steps toward ending this war.

If only Putin had not been free to come to Turkey.

And you can also see that the Russian delegation that came to Istanbul is of a very low level.

None of them are people who actually make decisions.

Something, though, was agreed between the Russian and Ukrainian delegates in Istanbul,

a large-scale prisoner swap which would see 1,000 inmates in each country released.

President Donald Trump has signaled today that he wants the U.S. to help the situation in Gaza.
