And today I'm joined by our assistant comment editor Francis Dernley, Brussels correspondent Joe Barnes,

and senior foreign correspondent Ronan Doleffent.

I started by asking Francis for the latest updates from Ukraine.

Well, thanks David. The NATO Summit has only just begun, and already we've seen some very

significant announcements, not least about Sweden's application to join the alliance and on security guarantees for Ukraine.

But Joe and Roland will cover those imminently.

First, as you say to the battlefield, Ukrainian forces said they have captured high ground to the south of Bafmoot,

giving them a vital advantage in the renewed battle for the destroyed city.

The claim comes as Ukrainian officials try to speed up their counteroffensive to show progress ahead of NATO's annual summit.

Hanamalia, Ukraine's deputy defense minister, said the Ukrainian soldiers have established fire control of the entrances and exits of Bafmoot.
