I'm John Bachelors with Professor H.J. McInder, who's generously commenting on five capitals in Ukraine conflict.

We go to Beijing, the General Secretary for the remainder of his life,

but Xi Jinping, an embassy to Riyadh, and in the course of the embassy,

or perhaps in between events, commented on Ukraine in a fashion that I can only characterize

as surprising.

What was conveyed is that Xi Jinping believes that there should be negotiations and a settlement

and some kind of resolution to the conflict.

Professor, this is on from a man who routinely threatens to invade and overwhelm Taiwan.

What do you make?

And other countries, yes.

What do you make of Xi Jinping suddenly sounding as if he's, I don't know, a diplomat?

Well, I wouldn't go that far.

Mr. Xi's reputation among Chinese, even Chinese diplomats, is very, very low.
