General told a conference in Norway that such a deal could end the war after almost

18 months. I think that solution could be for a Ukraine to give up territory and get

NATO membership in return. The officials, including Mr. Zelensky, rejected this adamantly.

there is always a moment when doubt rains across NATO. You've served NATO. Did you have incidents

like this where all of a sudden someone made a remark that is completely contrary to

everything so far and suddenly you were in territory where there were denials and finger

pointing and blame shifting. Did you see anything comparable to what we can imagine

it's going on now? Good evening, too.

Give you, John. Absolutely. I worked on the National Security Council staff in the White

House. During the Coastal Crisis and I was on the Coastal Action Team. One thing I think

people do not appreciate is behind the scenes how much work it takes to keep all the NATO

allies all hitting in the same direction. Of course, my job back there in 1999 was far

easier because we had eight or ten fewer members. So behind the scenes, the Biden administration

and NATO headquarters, Mr. Stolenberg, keeping everybody for the last 17 months, generally

hitting in the right in the same direction without any public fissures is really a pretty

amazing diplomatic trick that my hat is off to. And what happened with this regent is
