I'm John Batser, to Beijing with Professor H.J.

Professor Mrs. Clinton's remarks that she hesitated to invade Taiwan because of the failure

of the Russian military to win Ukraine quickly.

We take it from the point of view of someone who's well informed of Russia and China.

At the same time, the Chinese point of view is not transparent.

The economy is deeply troubled.

The peace gestures in the Middle East, even the phone called a Zelensky, has not obviously

come to a program or a recommendation of what goes next.

What is Beijing's point of view?

Is it closing its eyes and blocking its ears and hoping for the best?

Well, the best comment that I got on this suggests that Mr. Xi is intent on domestic policies.

And that striking or odd, as it may sound to say, that he is not pulling against his collar

to attack Taiwan.

That is a suicidal venture or even to start fight with any of the other people there.

All this fighting that the PRC talks about is really a way of trying to divert public

attention away from the problems in the economy, which you've mentioned are very severe.

But you have to understand that a million people graduated from college in China or graduating

from college in China.

And something like 80 percent of them are unemployed.
