Summary
Sometimes, despite our best efforts, our bodies simply don’t work the way we want them to. Maybe it’s an occasional occurrence for you or maybe it’s something you live with every day. We take on all sorts of messages about what health is (and what it’s not), how we get healthy, and how we stay healthy. But is all of the social messaging we absorb really helping us measure health? Or is it something that has been designed and packaged to tell us how to measure our own morality and worth?
Tune into my conversation with two of my students, Deb Malkin and Michelle Kapler, to learn why health is so challenging for so many of us, how we try to control our health, and how (as usual) trying to control something we can’t control, can make everything feel worse.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome to Unfuck Your Brain. The only podcast that teaches you how to use psychology, feminism, |
| 0:14.0 | and coaching to rewire your brain and get what you want in life. And now here's your |
| 0:19.3 | host, Harvard Law School grad, feminist rock star, and master coach, Carla Lohanthile. |
| 0:28.3 | So my chickens, every time I say I'm so excited for this conversation, and then every time |
| 0:32.7 | I say I always say that, but it's true. But I think that today, you know, there are topics |
| 0:37.3 | that I talk about that apply to everybody. There are topics I talk about that are a little |
| 0:40.3 | more niche or niche, depending on how you pronounce that. But I really think today, the |
| 0:44.8 | topic that we're talking about today is something that literally anybody who has a body |
| 0:49.0 | has experienced, which is when your body doesn't follow your manual. And what we mean by |
| 0:55.0 | that is like, basically when your body behaves in a way that you would prefer what didn't |
| 0:58.9 | behave when your body isn't doing what you want. And so for some of us that may be like |
| 1:04.0 | a daily occurrence, for some of us, it might be more occasional. But I think if you live |
| 1:09.0 | in a human body, if this hasn't happened to you, you're very young, probably it's going |
| 1:13.9 | to eventually happen to you just by the law of statistics and getting older. So we are |
| 1:20.2 | going to dig into that today. Why that is so challenging for so many of us, how we try |
| 1:25.1 | to control that, how as usual, trying to control something we can't control makes everything |
| 1:30.0 | feel worse. So here with two of my students, we're amazing coaches, Deb and Michelle. And |
| 1:35.2 | I'm going to let them introduce themselves and tell you guys a bit about what they do |
| 1:38.8 | and start with Deb and then Michelle. Hello. My name is Deb Malkin and I am a chronic |
| 1:46.7 | pain coach and I take a like a weight neutral approach. I'm also pretty radical bad acceptance |
| 1:53.7 | forage and background. So I help people work on their mind body relationship to the sensations |
| 2:00.4 | in their body, to chronic pain and conditions and help folks create the sense of wellness |
