The Day 5 of the Twilight Zone Advent calendar and a question from Jason Schwartz the host of the Twilight Zone sandbox podcast,

and he simply says, best Jack Klugman performance.

Okay, I'm going to go first on this one, Emmy.

So I'll put a bit of my reasoning behind it.

I'm going to exclude Death Ship straight away.

I love Death Ship.

I think Klugman is good in it, but I prefer Klugman to be earthbound.

You know, I think that's where Klugman is at as best.

In praise of Pip, great performance, can't fault any of it. And I know that Jason is asking

for the best performance, not favourite performance. So, you know, it's up there for sure. But for me,

it really comes down to between a game of pool or a passage for trumpet and really

speaking there's so many similarities between these characters and I think this is

where Klugman lives best these characters who have a drive to be something or to do something, but it's also quite self-destructive as well.

He ends up with some monkeys on his back, whether that's booze or just being in a pool hall all day, not having the relationships with people that he should have.

I think that's where Klugman is really at his best.

So I'm going to go with a passage for trumpet because there's a kind of whimsical aspect to that and the nighttime aspect that I just love. And I think Klugman's sort of,

you know, haunted musician, driven musician, who isn't able to keep his life together,

but he is just so great at this one thing, that that's the one that is always going to be my favourite.
