Look, all we want is proof of life for Michael Walker. You can keep the host's chair. We just

Rishi Sunak's government is still defending the decision by home secretary Suela Braverman

to detain asylum seekers in an overcrowded facility in Kent. The Manson Processing Centre is

only supposed to house 1,600 refugees, and only for 24 hours. But more than 4,000 were

held there in recent days, including children, many of whom have been detained there for weeks.

There have been outbreaks of diptheria, scabies and MRSA. The situation in Manson arose because

Suela Braverman refused to move the asylum seekers being detained there into hotel accommodation.

She has been accused of ignoring legal advice about how long they were allowed to stay at

the former military base. One home office source told the mirror this. When you have an

influx of people coming across the channel, you don't take your time to get accommodation.

You have two contractors that have a ready supply of hotel rooms and they just wait for

ministerial sign-off. A submission would have gone to the home secretary saying, we have

today had 900 or 1000 individuals arrive and you have a statutory duty to do XYZ. We need

to house these people. You cannot delay those decisions as you need to keep people flowing

as there are always more coming in. She has clearly broken the law as Manson is not

a detention site. It is a processing site. You cannot detain people there.
