algae week here on the podcast. So today we're getting practical in the

0:09.1

garden. We're talking with Matt about the types of algae that are found in our soil.

0:15.5

So we know it exists, we know it plays a role in the soil in some capacity.

0:20.2

What's actually in there and more importantly, where is it located within the soil because we know that

0:25.9

you know bacteria fungi bugs etc they all have certain regions of the soil that they like to

exist within,

0:33.2

where does algae fall in the soil system?

0:36.0

So we're gonna talk about that,

0:37.0

and there's a little segment as well

rhizosphere which is that small zone around the roots I was surprised when you emailed me to learn that

1:05.1

algae is typically also present in soil, probably just because my mental

1:10.6

association is algae equals something in the ocean, right, or something in water.

1:15.2

So maybe we could run over the types of algae that are found in soil.

1:19.1

Yeah, absolutely.

1:20.1

That's great that you've been reading about that stuff. Yeah, it turns out about 20% of the microbial biomass in healthy soil

is going to be algae.
