Respect the one gun hunter, an old saying goes.

And that still holds true.

The man that has and uses just one rifle for everything tends to be really proficient with that firearm.

However, a hunter with a wisely selected two rifle battery is much more versatile and that's what

we're here to talk about today a brief history first of two rifle batteries

really this concept kind of originated over in Europe specifically

England where, well, fairly wealthy hunters prepared and then went on safari to Africa.

This concept migrated into Scotland into America, think Teddy Roosevelt in his 1903 Springfield and Winchester

Model 95 and so forth. So really this idea was to take what was considered a light rifle, something suitable

for deer and elk size game, but typically African antelope species, right, As well as a heavy rifle. And in this case we're talking

a true big boar capable of being used as a stopping rifle, not just something that will cleanly kill a Cape Buffalo or an African lion or even an elephant,

but something that will stop a charging one that's bent on, well, erasing you, right? India is another place where

a two rifle battery was kind of a very typical approach to setting up to go and

hunt there. You use a heavy rifle for tigers and your lighter rifle for the various deer species that they had and

maybe leopard and so forth.

So we're going to talk about a modern two rifle concept for use in America's backcountry.

This would also apply of course to, oh, everywhere from Australia and New Zealand up to

Scandinavia. Anywhere that you hunt a wide range of game, talking body size and want to do a lot of shooting and be very

proficient and yet also have a rifle that's profoundly authoritative on big Big Body Tough game.
