But I wanted to take a minute to talk about what to do when a delegated task doesn't quite go the way you hoped it would.

It's bound to happen and that's okay.

Everything is an opportunity to learn.

But I do want to remind you of what I said earlier this week.

As tempting as it may be, the solution is not to delegate it back to yourself.

Systems are going to take time and adjusting, so make sure to allow for that.

There are three keys to help make sure that you get your tasks back on the right track.

So key number one, give constructive criticism. Feedback is good, but what's really important is making sure your criticism is constructive.

I like to use a technique I call the sandwich method.

Essentially, you sandwich it in, in between bits of praise.

So maybe you say something like, I'm very pleased you remember to take out the trash.

You did a good job of doing that without having to be asked.

However, I want to make sure you check all the trash cans throughout the whole house.

It looks like you missed a couple of baskets.

I bet you'll remember next time and you'll do an even better job.

That approach is less likely to put your teammate on the defensive.
