The way we watch pro sports is changing, and TV giants are taking the field, trying to stake their claim to certain broadcasts, and push competitors all the way back to the locker room.

I hope you'll forgive my sports metaphors, but I can't promise there won't be more, however.

So here's what's happening. Think about the last time you watched a game from the NFL, MLB, or NHL. What channel was it on? Each year, a small number of pro games from those leagues are shown on national channels like ESPN or Fox. But around 80% of a team's games are broadcast locally on what's called a regional sports network according to the New York Times. These networks pay fees to teams and leagues for the opportunity to broadcast games.

But for years, regional sports networks have been falling out of favor, and you may have guessed

why, streaming, of course. As more and more households cut their cable and satellite packages

in favor of streaming, regional sports networks or RSNs have been struggling.

Earlier this year, Diamond Sports, which operates 19 channels across the country under the

banner of Balli Sports, filed for bankruptcy. That was a big deal, because Diamond broadcasts
