The 46 Vice President of United States Dick Cheney passed away overnight at 84 years old after a consequential career.

Chief Washington correspondent John Carl is here. You covered most of it.

George, I've known Dick Cheney for 35 years. This is somebody who was the most powerful

vice president we've ever had, the most consequential political figure, certainly one of the

most consequential political figures of his lifetime, and somebody who will be remembered

for a dramatic change he made in his politics late in his life.

I believe you're looking at the next vice president of the United States.

There had never been a vice president quite like Dick Cheney.

On some of the defining issues of his time, Cheney's views often became American policy. He was a polarizing figure,

beloved by conservatives and vilified by the left, compared to a Star Wars villain.

They wouldn't call me Darth Vader for nothing.

He did more than anyone, with the possible exception of the president he served to craft America's response
