It's Tuesday, January 7th. Let's get you caught up with today's

seven stories. It was a remarkable moment at the Capitol yesterday. Members of Congress gathered

in a joint session to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election. The vice president had the ironic role of

finalizing Trump's victory and her own defeat. Harris spoke about her role after the proceedings.

Today, I did what I have done my entire career, which has take seriously the oath that I have

taken many times to support and defend the Constitution of the United States,

which included today performing my constitutional duties to ensure that the people of America, the voters of America,

will have their votes counted, that those votes matter, and that they will determine then the outcome of an election.

The certification was a speedy process, despite a snowstorm hitting Washington.

The calm scene was a stark contrast to January 6, 2021, when a mob of Trump supporters

violently disrupted the certification of Joe Biden's victory.

Four years after that incident, polling from UGov shows that the number of Republicans

who disapprove of the rioters has dropped to 50%, down from three quarters.

Trump has said he will issue pardons for January 6th defendants on the day he's inaugurated.

That's January 20th, less than two weeks away.

A New York judge denied an effort to block Trump's sentencing in his hush money case.
