Good afternoon from the KUOW Newsroom. This is Seattle Now. I'm Patricia Murphy. Here are today's

top stories. It's Tuesday, August 27th.

Commuters who frequent the fast ferry between Kingston and Seattle will have to find a new route this week.

Casey Martin has more.

The walk-on ferry that Jets riders from downtown Seattle up the sound to Kingston is not running.

Kitsap Transit says a blown head gasket on the ship the reliance is to blame. To get home, the agency recommends people catch the Washington State

ferry to Bainbridge Island and then take a bus to Polesbo or Silverdale. Two weeks ago,

service was reduced on the same route due to repairs.

Kitsap Transit warned riders this could happen in July.

With multiple boats out for service, there are no spare ferries to fill in if one goes down, like right now.

They hope to have the ferry to Kingston running by early next week.

Hundreds of union workers are stepping up pressure on three Seattle area hotels to pay higher wages

and improve staffing. More than 700 housekeepers, front desk employees, and other workers

voted to authorize a strike against C-Tax Double Tree and Hilton and the downtown Seattle Weston.
