Starting with a school shooting lawsuit, the family of a 17-year-old Garfield High School student shot and killed at lunchtime a year ago has filed suit against Seattle Public Schools. Amar Murphy Payne was killed after he broke up a fight outside the school last June. Felix Luna is an attorney for the family.

He says the district did not do enough to keep kids safe amidst recent violence around the school.

The family is devastated and is concerned for other students in schools in Seattle and across the area.

And really hopes and praise that a part of this,

it just prevents other families from suffering the same fate.

Despite many witnesses to the shooting, Seattle police have yet to make an arrest.

The family has asked anyone with information about Amar's death to call SPD's

violent crimes tip line.

Microsoft is laying off about 2,000 people who work out of the company's Redmond offices,

according to a state filing. It's part of a broader 6,000-person layoff first reported by

Geekwire today. Microsoft says the layoffs will be across all levels and geographies, but the
