Good afternoon. From the KOWW Newsroom, this is Seattle Now. I'm Paige Browning. Here are today's top stories. It's Tuesday, April 2nd.

Seattle's mayor visited one of the most dangerous roads in the city today, East Marginal Way in Soto.

All because the city's breaking ground on a project

to improve it. The upgrades include putting in bike lanes and roads that can support heavier trucks.

After all, it's a main commuting route for West Seattle. Here's Mayor Bruce Harrell at the

groundbreaking today. This project will enhance safety and connectivity for all users, whether you're a freight driver getting to and from the port or a cyclist coming off of the West Seattle Bridge Trail.

One challenge was to meet the needs of so many different groups that use the busy port area.

But Seattle's Transportation Director Greg Spots says all that input provides a good

Governor Jay Inslee has signed his final bills into law,

and now he's playing defense, working to keep in place what he's done as governor.

He's defending a clean energy law that kicked in just last week that would help the state's largest energy supplier transition away from natural gas.

Governor Inslee appeared on KUOW's sound side today to talk about why he supports the new

program. We don't have a choice here. Mother Nature has given us a work order, and that is to transition

off of dangerous pollution and polluting sources of energy. That includes methane gas. But critics, they say the law will lead to higher bills for customers.

Puget Sound Energy supplies natural gas to 800,000 customers in Washington,

and electricity to over a million customers.

The state requires the company to generate 100% of its energy from renewable sources by 2045.
