I love when we can read the Bible and know exactly what was going on when somebody said something

or somebody wrote something. In Psalm 34 today, we're going to see the exact occasion that David

wrote this Psalm. We're going to sense his motivation for writing. We're going to sense his fear and his faith as we think about

Hey there, friends. Welcome back to today's episode as we dive into a brand new

chapter of scripture, a brand new psalm, and one of my all-time favorite Psalms, very

quotable, Psalm 34, and love it for so many reasons. But one of the main reasons I love Psalm 34 is because we know a lot

about when it was written because the Bible tells us. And I'm kind of a history buff. I love history.

I love geography. It's probably one of the reasons I love Israel and Greece and the land of the

Bible so much is because I just, it's the way I think. So when I read things like Psalm 34 and

understand exactly when this happened in David's life and what the circumstances were,

it provides such a rich context for what we're

going to hear. And I think it'll really help. So anyway, let's just dive right in, Psalm 34. And the

introduction says, a Psalm of David. So we know that David wrote this.

And then it says this, when he changed his behavior before Abimelech,

who drove him away and he departed.

So that gives us the major clue about when David wrote this Psalm, when he changed his behavior before Abimelech.

So a couple things. First of all, who was Abimelech? Well, Abimelech, also known by his name,

Akish, Abimelech was kind of like the title. Like Pharaoh or Ben-Haddad in the Bible would be titles,
