Every detail of the Christmas story just helps us to appreciate more and more what God did for us.

So the Trinity all had a part in this great event here in Luke Chapter 2. I want you to look at verse 8. Verse 8. So Jesus now has been born. Mary is holding her

firstborn son in those rags, literally in those rags, and then laying

him down in that animal trough, that manger.

Then the Bible says in verse 8, and there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field,

keeping watch over their flock by night.

I think we're all familiar with that verse,

and I think most of us know that the good news that night,

in the middle of the night, Jesus was born.

Why is it that it seems that all babies are born in the middle of the night?

But the shepherds were the ones awake. The shepherds were

the ones that were keeping watch over their flock by night. Really significant for a number of

reasons. First of all, just think about the term shepherd in the Bible. Nowhere else in ancient history would a shepherd be honored.

Now we think about shepherding as we look back at the Bible and we think about an honorable

thing, shepherding. Why? I mean Jesus himself said, I am the good shepherd. Jesus used
