The big news of yesterday was that the United Nations released its latest and most dire

assessment about the state of the climate.

Their report, which was compiled by 234 authors and have allowed more than 14,000 studies

from around the globe, states that there is no remaining scientific doubt that humans

are fueling climate change.

Their report is full of haunting specifics, but the somewhat bright side of it all is

that if there are drastic reductions made to carbon emissions immediately, and if the

world could reach net zero emissions around the year 2050, warming could potentially stabilize

at about 1.5 degrees Celsius, which would cause glaciers to stop dwindling and sea-level

rise to slow down, and humans could theoretically adapt to that warmer world.

However, if that doesn't happen, then climate consequences will become dramatically more

extreme with each degree of temperature rise.
