It's Tuesday, August 1, 2023. I'm Albert Mueller and welcome to the new season of the briefing,

0:11.4

a daily analysis of news and events for a Christian worldview. There's so much for us to

0:16.0

talk about as this new season begins, but the gravity of the situation demands that we begin

0:21.3

with the crisis in the nation of Israel. This is a crisis, a controversy that is left

0:26.4

onto the front pages of our newspapers and into the headlines regularly, but it requires Christians

0:32.8

to think deeply about what's going on there because the lessons are not just for Israel,

0:37.4

they are also for the United States, and they are not just for the Jewish nation,

0:42.7

but they're also for Christians as we see to understand these things from a Christian worldview.

constitutional crisis in the nation's history, which is to say there are some who claim that

1:16.1

more liberal, even progressive as forces there in Israel. The more liberal and secular forces

1:22.0

allied with the nation's Supreme Court, the more conservative and the more religious allied with

1:28.0

the majority in parliament. To no one's surprise, the center of the controversy, indeed the main

1:33.8

driver of the controversy, is Israel's longest serving Prime Minister Benjamin, better known as

1:39.4

BB Netanyahu. In this case, Benjamin Netanyahu is serving an unprecedented fourth term as Israel's

1:47.0

Prime Minister, and in this case, at the head of a coalition that is led by his Lecude party,

1:52.7

but is basically also made politically possible by a combination with many of the parties known

1:59.2

in Israel as the far right or the religious right. The parties most associated with Orthodox forms

2:05.3

of Judaism. There's more to the story as we shall see, and from a Christian worldview perspective,
