| 0:00.0 | It's Friday, June 30, 2023. I'm Albert Molar and this is the briefing, a daily analysis |
| 0:10.9 | of news and events from a Christian world view. We knew the yesterday was going to be a |
| 0:15.1 | very big day at the Supreme Court of the United States. We now know that today will be |
| 0:20.1 | a very big day as well. But yesterday, the most controversial decision of the court's |
| 0:26.3 | term was handed down on a case having to do with college admissions and affirmative action. |
| 0:32.6 | Everyone knew it was going to be a big case. It turned out that it was a huge decision, |
| 0:38.2 | handed out six three, by the way, dividing the conservative and the more liberal justices |
| 0:42.8 | on the Supreme Court. But we also see here a Fisher in the United States, a world view |
| 0:48.0 | clash, as well as a policy clash that does indeed demand a much closer look. The two universities |

| 1:00.1 | private university. And the University of North Carolina, considered by some claims at least |
| 1:06.1 | the oldest public institution of higher education in the United States. You put the two of them |
| 1:11.7 | together, it pretty much covers the waterfront. And in this case, the plaintiff bringing the challenge |
| 1:16.9 | to the admissions policies was an organization known as Students for Fair Admissions. And we're |
| 1:22.4 | going to be looking at how the case came about. We're going to be looking most importantly about |
| 1:26.6 | what we see now in the aftermath of the decision handed down. First of all, what was the decision? |
| 1:33.2 | The decision was basically the culmination of a very long effort undertaken by the Supreme Court |
| 1:38.8 | to clarify what wasn't was not what is it is not constitutional when it comes to what is often |
| 1:45.8 | referred to as affirmative action. So let's just step back and ask ourselves what is affirmative action. |
| 1:52.8 | Going back to the period just after the midpoint of the 20th century, there wasn't understanding |
| 1:58.8 | that African-American black citizens in the United States have been unfairly discriminated against |
| 2:04.6 | in employment, real estate, many areas of the law, and indeed in college and university admissions. |
