Yesterday, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the Justice Department will open

a civil investigation into the Louisville Metro Police Department in light of the killing

of Brianna Taylor.

Similar to the investigation into the Minneapolis Police Department that was announced last

week, this will be another federal pattern or practice investigation that seeks to determine

whether the Louisville Police have engaged in a history of abusive and unlawful tactics

without accountability.

This investigation will be conducted separately from an ongoing civil rights probe into Brianna

Taylor's death, and it is about fucking time.

Last Wednesday, a 32-year-old black man named Isaiah Brown was shot multiple times by a Virginia

deputy.

He was shot standing outside his home after the deputy mistook a cordless phone in his

hand for a gun.

To add some more color to the weirdness of all this, this officer had actually given

Brown a ride home minutes earlier after his car broke down.

Brown then called the police when he got home because he said his brother wouldn't let

him into his mother's room to retrieve his car keys, and it appeared to the dispatcher

that they were having a domestic incident.

When the officers arrived, Brown was shot at least 10 times and is currently in critical
