Thank you for joining us today for this conversation on the Sword and the Trowel. Today, Pastor Tom and I talk about the legacy and the ministry of John MacArthur, and we just honor him and thank God for all that he's done and the ways that he's benefited the church here, not just in the U.S., but worldwide as well. Take a listen. Welcome to The Sword and the Trial. The Sword and the Trial is a podcast of Founders Ministries and Founders Exists for the Recovery of the Gospel and the Reformation of local churches. I'm Tom Askell. And I'm Graham Gunn. I was going to let you say Graham Gundin. Oh, well, I was good, yeah, people would never believe it. They don't buy that. This episode is brought to you by the Miller's Grove Soap Company and Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center.

What we want to do today on the podcast is we want to talk a little bit about the ministry of Pastor John MacArthur and honor his legacy in the way that he has benefited the American evangelical church and the church really around the world for decades.

0:53.0

Yeah, he's been a warrior

0:54.5

for truth and I certainly personally have benefited from his ministry and just got to know him a little

1:01.4

bit. I worked with him on a couple of projects and I'm so grateful to the Lord for what he has done

1:08.2

and of course, you know, these last couple of years have been very difficult

1:13.4

for him. And up to the point of his death, I think he'd only preached one time for like the last

1:19.7

year, year and a half or so there at Grace Community. And there were things that he wanted to do

1:24.6

that he wasn't able to do. But man, what a warrior. He cut a straight

1:29.2

path a long time. I remember seeing him on Larry King talk show. Do you even know who that is?

1:34.3

No, I know. I know. I was a kid.

1:35.8

Yeah, okay. Well, you know, and when other guys would get on there and freeze or just compromise,

1:42.1

he would not flinch and say, no, you know, Jesus Christ is the only way

1:46.4

anybody will ever be right with God. I remember one time Larry King pressing him hard about her.

1:51.9

Are you saying that, you know, Rabbi Solanzo is going to go to hell? He said, I'm telling you,

1:55.2

the only way that you will be made right with God is through Jesus Christ. And he just didn't

1:59.6

back down. And God just built him that

2:02.9

way. So we owe a lot to the life and ministry of John McCarthy. People have tried to tear him down.

2:10.7

There are folks who have come after him for years. And, you know, he was a man. And best of men are men at best.

2:16.4

And so he made his mistakes.

2:18.3

But in terms of how he stewarded the gifts that God gave him, the things that he built,

2:23.9

was encouraging others to build, there's no doubt that the Lord used him in mighty, mighty ways.
