0:12.1	Right now we're going through the first book of the Bible, Genesis.
0:15.0	Before I went to the University of Missouri, I had attended small Christian schools my whole life.
0:21.0	And as you can imagine, I went to hundreds of
0:24.4	Bible classes during this time. I'm sure a lot of them were great, but honestly I
0:29.3	couldn't tell you what happened in most of them. But there is one that sticks out to me. It was freshman year
0:35.7	and my Bible teacher handed out an article for us to read. The title went something like
0:40.3	Pastor holds weekly Bible study at local Hooters.
0:45.0	What followed was an hour of our class debating whether or not this pastor should have gone
0:49.6	into a Hooters to hold a Bible Study.
0:52.1	I remember that day because it posed an interesting question.
0:55.0	For what it's worth, I don't remember what conclusion we came to and today we will not be
1:00.0	deciding whether it was okay for a pastor back in 2010 to have a Bible study and a hooters.
1:05.6	But I do remember wrestling with the question this article posed for a long time.
1:11.8	Is there any place that is too far gone for God to redeem?
1:15.0	Anywhere that we'd be surprised if God called us to go there.
1:19.0	In Genesis 46, we see God calling Jacob and his family to an unexpected place.
1:26.1	At the end of the last chapter, Jacob has just learned that his beloved son Joseph is alive,
1:31.5	and he's sent carts and donkeys and provisions to bring him to Egypt.
1:36.4	And so Jacob begins to do just that.
1:39.4	So Israel, remember, that's Jacob.
