Another day, another stern threat from President Donald Trump towards Iran.

In a true social post this morning, he said the U.S. would blow up, quote, all of their electric generating plants, oil wells and Kark Island, and possibly all desalinization plants,

if a deal is in reach for a new government to take over.

In the same message, Trump said a deal probably would be reached, but Iran doesn't seem

quite as helpful.

Their foreign ministry spokesperson described the 15-point proposal Trump announced last week

as, quote, largely excessive, unrealistic, and unreasonable demands.

So where does that leave things as the average gallon of gas hits $3.99 in the U.S.

John Bolton is Trump's former national security advisor.

He says the fact that there are no direct talks between Iran and the U.S. should tell you a lot.

It's very much in question just exactly what the state of play in these negotiations

really is. Maybe we'll know more this week, but I don't think any negotiation that goes on

by passing messengers through the mediators is close to a solution.

If we sit down with the Iranians and come up with something, that would be different.

But I'm not optimistic even on that point.
