At the end of his first week back in office, President Donald Trump is in North Carolina

on the first of two stops to states devastated by hurricanes and wildfires.

His first trip since becoming president comes as Trump has criticized federal relief efforts

and Democratic leadership in North Carolina and Southern

California, and as Republicans in Congress way, how to provide disaster aid.

Communities in Western North Carolina have been decimated by Hurricane Helene's flooding.

Almost 13,000 households have used FEMA's temporary housing program, which will be available until May 26th.

But some displaced residents tell CNN, they're frustrated by the agency's response and feel

uncertain about their futures.

I guess we're just mountain people that nobody cares about.

We're just thrown out like garbage.

There's got to be a better way. I mean, I don't know it, but there's got to be.

In California, home builders across Los Angeles anticipate that rebuilding the city after the

wildfire destruction will be a slow and challenging process.
