On Friday, the Trump administration released its budget proposal for fiscal year 2026. The White House recommends budgeting $557 billion in nondefense discretionary spending, $163 billion (22.6%) below current levels, with significant cuts to foreign aid, scientific research, and environmental programs. It also proposes $1.01 trillion for defense spending, a 13% increase.
