Good morning. It is Saturday, August the 16th. For all of the lies that Donald Trump has

uttered throughout his political career, his second term is pretty much unfolding, just like he said it would.

His administration is cracking down hard on undocumented immigrants

and building up a force to carry out what could become potentially the largest mass deportation

campaign in the nation's history. The rollout of his tariffs policy has been confusing and

erratic, but he has managed to impose baseline and country-specific tariffs on many imported

products, despite the numerous warnings about what that would mean

for the global economy and the price of goods. And this week, he took a major step toward

achieving another one of his campaign promises, the federal takeover of Washington, D.C.'s

Police Force, something he's been openly talking about for years.

We're going to take over Washington, D.C., we're going to federalize it. We're going to have the toughest law enforcement in the country. We're not going to have any more crime, and it's going to look beautiful. And I'm telling you, four years ago when I was here, I used to go crazy with that. Get that street plane. It wasn't my job. You know, you have a mayor, right?

But you have a mayor. And they're supposed to do it, but we're going to take it over.

We're going to federalize it. And we're going to run it in the federal government. It's going to be run properly.

Donald Trump has had particulars disdain for Washington, D.C. for a long time. The district overwhelmingly voted against him in each of the last three presidential elections, which is not a personal slight against

Donald Trump, since D.C. typically votes Democratic. But it didn't exactly give him a warm welcome

when he first entered office in 2017. He's complained many times about how dirty and dangerous it is,

and a recent attack on a government employee

has given him an excuse to rant wildly about the city. In the early hours of August 5th,

19-year-old Edward Korsstein, AI Big Balls, who previously worked under Elon Musk's Department

of Government Efficiency Team, was assaulted by a group of teenagers during an attempted carjacking.

In the 11 days since, Trump has declared a public safety emergency and taken control of the D.C. police,

making a reference to that carjacking several times.
