Trump's 2027 budget request, including a 10% cut to non-defense programs and $1.5 trillion for the

Pentagon. What are the highlights of this document? What does it say about the president's

priorities? And will Congress's appropriators

take or leave that advice? Welcome, I'm Kyle Peterson with the Wall Street Journal. We're joined today by

my colleagues on the journal's opinion pages, columnist Kim Strassel, and editorial board member,

Kate O'Dell. On Friday, the White House release has requested budget of the

U.S. government, a 92-page document full of numbers, but also policy proposals. Of course,

the spending power in the American system belongs to Congress under Article 1 of the Constitution.

So one question with presidential budgets is also how much Congress is going to take them into account when it decides on what to spend.

On that point, let's listen to former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney on C-SPAN's ceasefire program responding to this budget document.
