Summary

After ruling that Donald Trump could not give part of the closing argument in his New York civil fraud trial, Judge Engoron changed course and decided to allow Trump to make a statement. And because no good deed goes unpunished, Trump violated the rules the judge had set for him regarding the statement, and Trump acted like a fool.

Glenn discusses what happened and why the judge changed course allowing him to make a statement at the end of the case.

Let's start with how we got there where Donald Trump was permitted to talk

the email traffic, some of it between Judge

1:26.6

and Gouron and one of Donald Trump's lawyers, Chris Kies, and this email traffic is equal parts amusing and appalling. So let's

start with an email from Judge and Goron to Donald Trump's lawyers

1:45.2

after they informed the judge that Donald Trump wanted to make part of his own
