And new tonight, Donald Trump's criminal defense team is renewing its request

for Judge Tanya Chuckin to hold Special Counsel Jack Smith in contempt of court.

With the election interference case currently on a hold

while Trump's immunity claims get worked out in a federal appeals court,

Trump's lawyers want all activity in the case halted.

Even the routine filing of documents,

which Jack Smith's team has said is permissible

because it doesn't require the Trump team to do anything.

Emotion to punish Jack Smith for something he's not prohibited from even doing is yet another

example of how Donald Trump has always

preferred to live in the world of alternative facts. But that strategy? It's on a

collision course with courtroom reality.

And that's what we saw this week as the disgraced former president stood up for just a few minutes in his own defense in the New York Attorney General's civil fraud trial.

And Trump rambled, dissembled, and presented himself

as usual as a victim, which did not appear

to impress the judge who ultimately will decide the outcome in this case.
