Our top stories for today, a new BLS chief, an AI showdown, and GM's driverless reboot.

President Trump announced his pick to lead the Bureau of Labor Statistics after firing the former head of the agency earlier this month. He named E.J.

Antony, chief economist of the Conservative Heritage Foundation, as his nominee to lead the agency.

The position, of course, is subject to Senate

confirmation. Antony has been vocal about his concerns with BLS jobs data and revisions. The president

wrote on a truth social post that the economy is booming and EJ will ensure that the numbers

released are honest and accurate.

And Tony would succeed Erica McIntoffer, whom Trump abruptly fired on the 1st of August after

a BLS report showed weak job growth in July and substantial downward revisions to the two

months prior. Trump's firing of McIntoffer shocked economists across

the political spectrum, who immediately came to her defense as well as the BLS as an institution.

Of course, the BLS is responsible for key numbers and statistics like employment and

unemployment, as well as CPI, which will be released today.

Elon Musk on Monday threatened legal action against Apple, accusing it of antitrust violations

over the App Store's rankings of GROC, the artificial intelligence chatbot from his startup

XAI. He wrote in a post on his social media platform X that Apple is

behaving in a manner that makes it impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach number

one in the app store, which is an unequivocal antitrust violation. He went on to say that XAI will

take immediate legal action. In a separate post, Musk wrote,
