Summary

The never-ending flood of new regulations has been strangling American businesses for decades. A year ago, all a reasonable person could hope for as a reduction in their growth. But that was then and this is now: expect federal regulations to be reduced by FIFTY PERCENT!

50% of all federal regulations wiped out. Hi, I'm Scott Ott with Bill Whittle and Stephen Green,

0:06.0

and this episode of Right Angles brought to you by the members at Bill Whittle.com. And gentlemen,

0:10.4

I don't think that I have been excited by a PowerPoint presentation since I don't think I've ever been

0:18.0

excited by a PowerPoint presentation. However, the Washington Post

0:22.8

published a PowerPoint presentation created by our buddies over at the Department of Government

0:27.3

Efficiency. It's very short. It's nine pages long. And it has that headline that basically

0:33.3

says, we can eliminate 50% of all federal regulations and with yielding a potential, they don't call

0:41.1

this savings, but they say a potential $3.3 trillion value opportunity per annum. Why they have to

0:50.5

throw Latin in there? I have no idea. It's PowerPoint. So anyway, and in the process, doing this, they can save 93% of the man hours that would otherwise

1:02.6

be created.

1:03.6

Stephen Green, yes, as you might have guessed, this involves artificial intelligence attacking

1:10.1

the problem of what I think you've perennially referred to

1:13.7

as government cruft. And what they've discovered, basically, is that there are some 200,000

1:21.9

regulations. Technically, they're not all separate regulations. There are sections within documents

1:26.9

that are regulatory

1:28.6

documents and then each section basically is its own kind of regulation. So about 200,000 of these,

1:34.4

Stephen Green, and 50% of them apparently are not statutorily required. They were developed by agencies,

1:43.8

but they're not required by law.

1:46.4

And about of the other 50%, 12% of those are not required, but the agency apparently needs them.

1:56.2

And 38% of them are, in fact, statutorily required, but the agency doesn't necessarily need them.

2:02.1

So what DOJ is saying, Steve, is using AI, we can figure out which 100,000 regulatory sections can be deleted.

2:12.8

And this is probably the bigger challenge, is we can actually go through the process of delete them, because you can't just delete them. You've got to go through this sequence of events where you have to publish stuff, and then you have to wait for public comment, and then you have to filter through maybe 100,000 public comments, and all of this stuff has to go on. And the lefties will spam those, by the way. Of course they will.
