Good morning. It's Sunday, June the 8th. We begin this morning with breaking news.

Protests have erupted in Los Angeles that as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents staged a sweep of migrant workers near a local Home Depot said to be part of a larger ice operation underway in Southern California.

Protesters clashed with law enforcement who were wearing riot gear.

They responded with tear gas, as some demonstrators set vehicles on fire at block major roadways.

According to the L.A. County Sheriff, one person has been arrested. Two deputies were injured,

even as crowds of protesters thinned out overnight. The Los Angeles Police Department says it detained multiple people near the city's downtown after failing to disperse.

The mayor of Paramount, a city in L.A. County that saw one of the ICE operations had this to say at a press conference yesterday.

I appreciate authorities doing their job, but I also appreciate the people who have, who are at this point, they're just frightened.

And when you handle things the way that this appears to be handled, it's not a surprise that chaos would follow.

Now, in response to the protest, President Trump said he would deploy 2,000

guards, 2,000 National Guard troops to the Los Angeles area. But L.A. Mayor Karen Bass

called the move unnecessary. Governor, California Governor Gavin Newsom, who nominally holds the power

to order deployment of National Guard troops in his state, said that it would create a

spectacle and has accused the Trump administration of moving to take over the California National

Guard. Trump's appointed border czar Tom Holman warned that both officials, meaning Gavin Newsom and

Mayor Bass, could face arrest if they impede federal authorities' work. Meanwhile, Vice President J.D. Vance

blamed foreign nationals with no legal right to be in the country for attacks on federal

agents and urged protesters to be peaceful. That as anti-ice protests are spreading around the

country, including to places like New York City. Despite the back and forth between local and

federal officials, L.A. Mayor Bass issued a

public statement. Everyone has the right to peacefully protest. But let me be clear, violence and

destruction are unacceptable, and those responsible will be held accountable. End quote.
