The Bible spends a fair amount of time talking about the power of the tongue to do good and to do evil.

And Jesus Himself says, the words we speak point to what's going on in our heart,

which is a profound condemnation of Trump's state of his soul.

They just haven't, I don't think, thought that through because they just say,

well, he's a man with rough edges and he has bad manners.

And they don't understand how that can destroy the fabric of a culture.

So right before Christmas of 2019, which tends to be kind of a lull in the news cycle,

that conversation session, president is at his bribery palace in Florida,

and impeachment was kind of in this liminal space.

There was this big piece of news that came out of nowhere and came from an unlikely source,

not something that I think normally gets a lot of coverage,

which is the publication of Christianity today.

It was founded decades ago by Reverend Billy Graham.

It's like the main sort of magazine of evangelical culture in America.

It's a really big deal.

It's got a huge circulation.

I was reporting about evangelicals back in 2005 and 2006,

and started reading it then.

I subscribed for a little bit.

And it's a fascinating publication.

It's completely embedded in a different worldview than my secular liberal worldview.
