Welcome to the beat. I'm Ari Melber. Today, the defendant in the Charlie Kirk shooting appeared in court for the first time. Tyler Robinson, you can see here in a brief hearing. About 10 minutes, he was read his charges, appointed a lawyer and told that the state intends in his case to seek the death penalty.

Tyler James Robinson.

I'm provisionally appointing a Rule A qualified attorney to represent you on your case.

Mr. Robinson, for count one, aggravated murder.

Just for the court's information, we did file just recently within the last few minutes a notice of intent to seek the death penalty.

Robinson indicted on seven charges, which includes aggravated murder and a felony weapons use.

Prosecutors detailed some new evidence today from the probe.

The roommate looked under the keyboard and found a note that stated, quote,

I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I'm going to take it.

Police found a photograph of this note.

DNA consistent with defendant was found on the trigger.

Robinson's mother explained that over the last year or so, Robinston's mother explained that over the last year or so,

Robinson had become more political and had started to lean more to the left, becoming more pro-gay and trans-rights oriented. I am charged with bringing justice for Charlie Kirk.
