Pork over Polly

The fascination with the Pork Over Polly legend have led The The Polly Highway runs across the southeastern side of the island connecting Honolulu with the

windward side of the island.

It's been said you're not supposed to bring pork from the windward side of the island

to the leeward side because according to our ancient

legends the windward side of the island belongs to Kamapu the pig god the leeward

side belongs to his ex-girlfriend, Pele, who he had a tumultuous relationship with.

Pele is the goddess of fire.

She is known for having a fiery personality and vengeful wrath.

There are many stories about Pele's corals and battles.

Well, after the bad breakup between Kamapu and Pele,

they could never see each other.

And if you bring pork over the highway, you are trying to bring Kamapoos from one side of the island

to the other.

Well, your car might break down, or something else might prevent you from getting to your

destination. Pele will stop you because she does not want to see Gamapoa.

As a modern freeway has replaced the old Pele-Pale, which was a curving winding adventure over Kaula Mountains, people

testing the legend have experienced some benign results.

Perhaps the power of the myth has weakened because of this different path.

However, as the newspapers reported in 1986, once in a while something will happen at the

Pele to reinforce belief in the supernatural traditions.
