Summary

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. Proverbs 13:20 — As humans, we’re all hardwired for community. Isolation as a whole is not good for the human machine. That’s why a form of torture is solitary confinement - being completely separated from human interaction. The question, however, is what kind of community are we surrounding ourselves with? — In this week’s message, Pastor Ben Stuart guides us through what the book of Proverbs has to say about friendships. The truth is, the people we walk with determine our path. Are those within your community pointing you toward a life of flourishing or a life of destruction?

Today's talk comes from Pastor Ben Stewart

0:15.6

and is a continuation of a series entitled Survival Spots. Well, when I was in elementary school, we used to play this game in PE called

0:29.6

Octopus. The way Octopus worked, I don't know if you played it, is they would line all

0:34.8

up on one wall and then they'd blow the whistle and the goal was to run from that wall

0:39.6

to run across and touch the other wall. It's not a particularly complicated game.

0:44.9

The little twist is that they would pick one person and designate them it and they would stand in the middle.

0:50.8

And so as you ran from one wall to the other the it person

0:54.1

would tag you but what would happen is if they tagged you didn't go out you had to

0:58.4

sit down wherever they tagged you and you became a part of its machine of evil right you didn't have the autonomy of it

1:05.8

but you were suddenly part of his kingdom and you were part of the problem for

1:10.0

others you would sit Indian style or excuse me, criss-crossed applesaws on the floor and then you

1:16.7

would put your hands out and you would grab people and as we went back and forth across

1:21.5

the room you would tag more and more people and get increasingly

1:24.8

complex maze of little fifth grade enemies all over the floor, right?

1:29.2

And that's what made it exciting.

1:30.4

So I remember there's one day we were playing and the first game I did pretty good you know it was okay made it a couple rounds back and forth but got hit when it got more complicated

1:37.4

Second game I was little distracted frustrated got hit way too early was a part of the it situation far too early in the game and so we

1:44.6

only had time to play three and so I remember when we got to the third game I was like
