As of midnight, the United States has imposed 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada and 10% on Canadian energy products.

Thanks to Donald Trump's unilateral and gratuitous trade, where the U.S. is now being smacked with retaliatory tariffs from Canada, Mexico, and China, which we'll get to you later, as we should be.

In response this morning, Prime Minister

Justin Trudeau of Canada, took a moment to address the American people directly. Play the clip.

Canada will be implementing 25% tariffs against $155 billion worth of American goods, starting with tariffs on 30 billion dollars worth

of goods immediately, and tariffs on the remaining 125 billion dollars of American products

in 21 days' time. I want to speak first directly to the American people. We don't want this. We want to work with you as a

friend and ally. And we don't want to see you hurt either. But your government has chosen to do this

to you. That's right. To us. Thank you, Prime Minister Trudeau.

Thank you for acknowledging that to many of us in this country, you understand that this is not

our fault because we don't want this and we didn't vote for it and we don't support it.

Also, we are deeply sorry for the damage this is going to do to your country, Canada, a place we love, and which I fear will no longer be our ally when the dust settles.

But I especially want to thank you for this statement.

Donald. Now, it's not in my habit to agree with the Wall Street Journal. But Donald, they point out that even though you're a very smart guy, this is a very dumb thing to do.

He deserves no honorifics whatsoever.
