Welcome to another episode of the Chuck Todd cast.

So there's a number of ways to examine the current state of the American democracy

or the current state of democracy.

Drop the word American. And why do I say that because you definitely when you step back and you look at all of our

Interparty and cross sort of polarization that's taking place here.

You know, you think, geez, is this unique to America?

And there's one piece of good news.

We're not alone. Now do you think that's good news or bad news? I'll let you decide that. But the point is the Western democracies, be them Japan, Korea, South Korea, of course, the UK, France, Italy, Canada, the Western democracies are all seeing

sort of similar moments and movements.

The conservative wing of the party has gotten further to the right that a, you know, Brexit's a great example,

but sort of there's more of an anti-immigrant strain inside conservative movements,

be them in the United States, be them in the UK, all across Western Europe, also seeing that in Canada. You've got sort of a lot of the liberal coalitions.

Climate change is first and foremost, but that fight with sort of a cost of dealing

with it, including pricing carbon. That's an issue there. So it is interesting you've got you've got these sort of center left coalitions all elected promising to tackle some of the big problems being, you know, some of them post

pandemic and a lot of them having to do with climate change and they have their their

policy proposals have the enactment had been

unpopular whether it a spike of inflation here whether that was directly

caused by Biden's agenda or not is certainly something will debate

throughout this campaign. Obviously the inflation issue was something really

triggered more by the pandemic than anything else.
