| 0:51.3 | because I used to be terrified of speaking to other people on the telephone. |
| 0:57.1 | There is such a thing as telephobia, which is a phobia of speaking on the phone. |
| 1:02.4 | People who have social anxiety sometimes have this phobia as one of their symptoms. |
| 1:07.8 | And for me, it was really bad in middle school and into early high school. I had a fear of |
| 1:14.9 | saying something stupid or not knowing what to say or awkward silences or the person on the other |
| 1:22.3 | end of the phone not hearing me or not understanding me. It was all too stressful at the time, too triggering for me. |
| 1:31.1 | So my solution was to unplug our landline. |
| 1:35.6 | We still had a landline phone back then, a house phone. |
| 1:40.0 | I barely had a cell phone. |
| 1:41.5 | It was one of the flip phones. |
| 1:43.0 | We didn't have smartphones at the time. |
