What's up Motivators, Taryn here. Today we are talking about how triathletes can improve their run

0:05.6

going into next season. When we start talking to athletes about their previous performances,

0:11.9

most often they say that they broke down on the run in their races. And the reason that they didn't

0:17.4

quite reach the goals that they had set out for themselves is because they

0:21.1

couldn't actually execute the run. When we start digging into the reasons why this is,

0:27.1

rarely is it actually due to a lack of run talent. And that's the interesting thing about

0:33.6

triathletes when they start talking about improving their run around this time. In the off

0:38.1

season, most athletes start thinking, well, okay, going forward, here's what I want to do. Here are the

0:43.2

goals that I want to set out for myself. And the run tends to be where races break down and goals get

0:49.4

missed. Now, the rare case is when the athlete actually needs to improve their run, and more often,

0:59.3

it's in all of the things that surround the run, the bike, the nutrition that comes before

1:05.0

it, the overall training load, the amount of off-season that they take.

1:09.2

All of these things need to be put into perspective

1:11.8

so that you can be set up to run well. So we're going to talk about all of these other things and all

1:17.6

of the different factors that you can look at and maybe identify in yourself that, hey, maybe you

1:22.6

do want to improve your run, but instead of looking directly at improving the run, maybe you need

1:27.4

to improve something else to actually improve the run, maybe you need to improve

1:27.9

something else to actually improve the run. We are also going to talk about, is it actually your

1:33.3

run that might be holding you back? And if it is actually your run itself that's holding you

1:38.0

back, how do you identify what factors around your run and related to your run do you need

1:43.3

to work on to make sure that

1:44.4

your run is performing well on race day? We have Jamie Delamore again as our co-host for today.
