It took longer than they had planned to make all the arrangements for the ship.

Meanwhile, Squire Trelawney was in Bristol, gathering together,

the vessel and the crew. Dr. Liversea had to tie up some loose ends and get a replacement

for his practice while he would be gone, which left Jim at the squire's home, being watched over

by the groundskeeper until they were given the go-ahead. When the letter from the squire finally

arrived, Jim was granted permission to spend one night back at the inn with his mother,

who had hired a boy to assist with all the work there in Jim's absence.

The doctor travelled down to Bristol from London,

and Jim met the men there at their lodgings, where the squire was excited to see them

both. He explained in his letter that he had had trouble getting a crew together, but happened upon a pub landlord

with one leg who goes by the name of Long John Silver.
