Matthew chapter 19, verses 21 and 22.

Jesus said to him,

if you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor,

and you will have treasure in heaven.

And come, follow me.

When the young man heard this, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

This is the story of this young man who was very rich who had all this world has to offer and yet he knew he was missing out so he comes to jesus and he's basically saying how can i experience life to the full and jesus

looks back at him and says, go, sell what you possess.

Let go of the stuff of this world and give to the poor.

Now that sounds like Jesus is calling this man to sacrifice, which in a sense he is.

Yes, he's calling him to let go of these things in the world

that he's holding on to, these possessions and give them to the poor. But listen to what Jesus says next.

He says, you will have treasure in heaven and come follow me. That's not a call to sacrifice.

That's a call to treasure.

That's a call to eternal treasure.

This is not sacrificial.

This is smart.

Like, what would you rather have?

Things in this world that are going to fade away that are all decaying that are not going to last,

or would you rather have treasure in heaven that will last forever as you follow Jesus,

the author of life, the giver of life, the giver of life, the giver of every good gift?
