This week, Dan and Kathy Lorsell continue their conversation about the tale,

a stunning new film that raises crucial questions about arousal, contempt,

and the necessity of

telling the truth about our stories of trauma and abuse.

Again, my privilege is to be with my dear friend and boss, Kathy Lursel. And we've been talking

about The Tale and quite a movie. And what we want to do this particular episode is to bring,

I guess you could say critique, but I'm so far from critiquing this film that it's a silly word to use.

Just a side point.

People who critique other people's works, I want to see what you create.

Because until you have created something and know that everything we create has some level of flaw.

And even if the flaw is you can't encompass in a several-hour work of art, everything that you'd want to say.

And some of the critique has been you've given the character in this film far too vast a sense of hero status and really not shown some of

the real effects, long-term effects of sexual abuse.

And I don't want to critique along those lines.

What I want to say is what more would we want to add if Jennifer Fox were to do a follow-up to this particular video?

What things do we think to be crucial to address?

Yeah.

When I watched the film, I think I said this in the last podcast, but it was very difficult to watch the whole thing.

And part of what we talk about in terms of not looking away when we're dealing with abuse and trauma stories,

to the degree that you're familiar with your own arousal is the degree in which you'll be able to stay with someone else's

abuse stories and trauma stories.
