This is Paul Adamson and I'm in conversation with Carl Dolan.

Carl Dolan is the Director of Transparency International's EU office in Brussels.

Carl, maybe before we talk about things like tax evasion, tax avoidance, maybe for the benefit of our listeners, a few words

about what TI Transparency International does broadly and what the Brussels office, the EU office,

does in particular, please.

Yeah, sure.

Well, Transparency International is the leading NGO in the fight against corruption worldwide.

We've been doing that now for about 22 years.

And our office in Brussels was set up about six years ago.

And we advocate, or lobby the EU institutions for anti-corruption reforms, anti-corruption legislation, transparency

legislation, and also keep an eye on the transparency of decision-making in the EU institutions

themselves.

Okay, well we'll see how much we can squeeze into this conversation in the next 10 minutes or so,

but I think we have to talk first, given its topicality, about the

so-called Panama Papers, these revelations about pretty wide scale, on a global scale, tax

evasion, tax avoidance, if you like, but certainly tax evasion by all sorts of individuals,

organisations across the world. I mean, for you, what you've said on the back of the

revelations very recently that the EU has a narrow window in the next six months to lead the way.

What do you mean by that?

Yeah, well, maybe take a step back first, Paul, because as you said, these are revelations to some people but in fact there are no

revelations to anybody who's been working in the anti-corruption community time and

time again when we've been looking at or investigating the behaviors of you know
